Neoclassical carved and gilded wood frame. Italy, early 19th century.
Opening 57.5 x 71 cm - Rabbet 58.5 x 73 cm - Overall 67.5 x 82 cm.
Entirely in carved and gilded wood.
The frame features a reverse cavetto profile entirely decorated with repeated palmettes in a continuous series, according to the Neoclassical repertoire widespread in Italy in the early decades of the 19th century. A thin bead molding separates the main frieze from the smooth rabbet. The gilding retains its warm hue with uniform age patina.
Condition Report: Overall good condition. There are minor losses and wear to the gilding. A loss to the rabbet in the lower left is noted.
