Antique Paintings Landscapes, La Corrèze, Gaston Anglade, Oil on Canvas, Early 20th Century. (QP733)
Description:
(QP733) The Antique Paintings category, Landscape With Hills and River, showcases an Oil on Canvas painting from the early 20th century. It depicts the French heathland, immersed in a natural landscape of great charm and allure. The scene portrays a typical hilly landscape of the French countryside, with extensive heather moors in bloom, displaying pink and violet hues, traversed by a tranquil body of water reflecting the warm light of the sky. These are paintings with landscapes representing the Corrèze valley bathed in a warm, golden light, as inscribed on the back of the painting by the artist: "Ses Bruyères à Argentat - Corrèze". The painting captures the blooming heather and conveys a sense of calm and contemplation due to the infinite horizon. The artwork is dated 1912 and signed in the bottom right by Gaston Anglade, a French landscape painter. Gaston Anglade (1854-1919) was born in Bordeaux. A French painter renowned for his poetic depictions of the French countryside, particularly heathland moors, valleys, and rural vistas, which form the core of his artistic production. He began his professional career as a music professor in Bordeaux but soon his passion for painting led him to dedicate himself entirely to the canvas. Anglade studied under Joseph Baudet (1824-1870) and Léon Germain Pelouse (1838-1891). During this period, he consolidated his natural and painterly style, strongly influenced by his ability to capture the luminous atmospheres and subtle light effects typical of the French countryside. Anglade regularly exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, participating in Parisian artistic events and carving out a place for himself in the art scene of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The oil painting is presented in a beautiful gilded frame from the late 19th century. The frame and the antique canvas have been carefully and professionally restored.
