Oil on canvas. Central European school from the mid-19th century. In the center of the scene, in front of a throne topped by a red velvet canopy and with royal insignia beside it, a king is settling a dispute between two groups of men, represented by some dignitaries in civilian clothes, behind whom two different flags rise above the crowd; it probably deals with two political factions of the same city. The city skyline in the background of the scene places it in a Central European geographical context. The painting was applied to plywood at the beginning of the 20th century. It is presented in a regilded late 19th-century frame.
