Dated around 1870.
James Henry Steward was a company of opticians and scientific instrument manufacturers founded in London in 1852.
Famous for the quality of its instruments, it became an official supplier to the British government and various national artillery and shooting associations.
The address 406 Strand remained the company's nerve center for over a century (1856/1971).
The brass microscope is signed "J.H. Steward 406 Strand London".
It is equipped with two eyepieces, two objectives, some accessories, and some slides.
