Moses Striking Water from the Rock Painting  Translated
Description:
Oil on canvas. French school of the late 17th century. The painting is inspired by the one created by Nicolas Poussin around 1635, currently in deposit at the National Gallery of Edinburgh, but compared to that work, ours presents multiple variations and is much less extensive (the entire right side of Poussin's scene, rich in figures in the foreground and background, has been eliminated). The subject recounts a biblical episode from the Book of Exodus: the people of Egypt wandered through the Sinai desert and were without water; God then ordered Moses to take his staff, gather the elders, and strike the rock on Horeb before the people: a spring of water gushed forth from it, with which all the people could quench their thirst. The presented painting has undergone restoration and relining in the past. It is presented in a late 19th-century frame. Product condition: Product in good condition, shows minor signs of wear. We try to present the real state as completely as possible with the photos. If any details are not clear from the photos, what is stated in the description is authoritative.
