"The Boar Hunt"
Embossed, pierced, engraved and silvered copper stand
Height 12 x 12.6 cm (base diameter) x 34 cm (plate diameter)
Northeastern Italy, 16th century
Resting on the ground by means of a turned truncated-conical base that tapers upwards, it features a "plate" with a doubled and riveted rim, and a body that is embossed and elegantly decorated with pierced work.
The body consists of a central round section bordered by a beaded frame, and centered by a shield which, in all probability, anciently bore family crests.
The shield is surrounded by two successive circular bands: the first sumptuously adorned with animal figures: four dogs and two wild boars chasing each other through the vegetation; and the second elegantly decorated with a succession of openwork patterns, forming small intersecting arches.
A very rare and highly refined object.
