The composition of rare beauty and extraordinary elegance presents the most refined characteristics of Florentine Renaissance painting and depicts one of the classic themes celebrated by the great Masters: the Holy Family with Saint Elizabeth and the little Saint John the Baptist.
Analogies with the magnificent creations of Andrea del Sarto are evident, who, in addition to excelling for the excellent quality of his works, became a constant point of reference for a large part of Tuscan artists of the 16th century.
The stylistic perfection and pictorial quality are made evident by a particular chromaticism with bright gradations, with warm and cool tones juxtaposed in an unparalleled way. The soft transitions on the rosy and luminous flesh tones stand out against the dark background with a result of great volumetric effect.
The blues and azures of exceptional vivacity stand out. Finally, the perfect balance in the arrangement of the protagonists of the scene should be emphasized. The characters are depicted in all positions, both front and side, full face and in profile, allowing the author to express his great portraiture skills.
A special mention goes to the splendid pictorial description of the nude bodies of the two Children, which is rarely found in similar works.
The comparison of this painting with the same one kept at the Louvre Museum highlights that it is indeed a work executed in the workshop of Andrea del Sarto. (See last photo)
