Splendid oil painting on canvas depicting the Madonna and Child, a work from the 19th century by an Italian school, signed and dated lower right "18 ID 49".
The composition recalls models of Renaissance ancestry, particularly the Raphaelesque tradition, reinterpreted according to the devotional and academic taste of the 19th century.
The Virgin is depicted in a half-length pose, with her head gently inclined and her eyes lowered, in a contemplative attitude. The Child, seated on her lap on a light cloth, is captured in a dynamic pose while holding a small wooden cross, a clear symbolic reference to the Passion.
The compositional structure is balanced and centered, with a neutral dark background that enhances the volumes and the luminosity of the flesh tones.
From a technical point of view, the smooth brushwork is evident, with careful chiaroscuro modulation and soft tonal transitions, typical of 19th-century academic production. The color palette is dominated by warm tones (reds, browns, deep blues) that are well harmonized.
