The work is mounted in its original passe-partout, with the title written in pencil by the author at the bottom.
This is one of the six black and white studies that Martini conceived for the triptych Symphonies of the Sun (or Fantasies of the Sun), which were later realized in colored chalk as The Dawn, The Night, and The Rivers.
