On the original porphyry base, the slender figure of a young lady is captured in a delicate dancing attitude.
Her hands are raised, her eyes half-closed, interpreting a musical passage.
Nino Galizzi (Bergamo, March 12, 1891 – Bergamo, September 20, 1975) was an Italian sculptor particularly known for his works decorating public buildings in the cities of Milan, Bergamo, and Rome.
Born in Bergamo in 1891, he completed his early studies at the Andrea Fantoni School of Applied Arts and at the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, where he studied under the painter Ponziano Loverini. He then moved on to Rome and Florence.
At the outbreak of the First World War, he served in the military for nearly six years, fighting on many Italian fronts, in Macedonia, Serbia, and Greece, earning decorations for valor.
At the end of the war, Galizzi resumed his studies and work, staying in Rome, Paris, Milan, Rome, and Bergamo.
He participated in important national exhibitions such as the 24th Venice Biennale (1948), the Rome Quadrennial, and the Permanente in Milan, and taught sculpture at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo.
He died in Bergamo on September 20, 1975.
