Venetian painter (19th century) - Venice, view of the Royal Gardens with the Coffee House towards the Basilica of S. Maria della Salute.
15 x 23 cm (unframed) - 22 x 30 cm (framed).
Tempera on paper, in a carved and gilded wooden frame.
Inscribed on the back in pencil: "The gardens in Venice - Royal Gardens ?".
The view depicts the Basin of San Marco with the Doge's Palace in the foreground on the left. Along the Riva degli Schiavoni, figures in 19th-century attire, moored gondolas, and sailboats are depicted, while the background is closed by a sunset sky in orange and pink tones. The liveliness of the small figures and the atmospheric rendering point to the typical repertoire of early 19th-century Venetian view painters.
