Pair of carved, lacquered, and painted wooden chests of drawers. Sicily, 18th century.
Description:
Pair of carved, lacquered, and painted wooden chests of drawers. Sicily, 18th century. 137 x 64 x h 110 cm. Carved wooden structure, lacquered and polychrome painted, with a painted top in black faux marble with gold veining. Three-drawer bombé front with burnished bronze handles and escutcheons, resting on cabriole legs ending in a deer hoof. Exceptional pair of chests of drawers attributable to the finest tradition of 18th-century Sicilian cabinetmaking, characterized by a decorative apparatus of remarkable executive quality. The surfaces, entirely covered with lacquer on a vermilion red background, are animated by gilded relief stucco decorations that frame shaped cartouches painted with polychrome floral compositions, with motifs of flowers, fruit, and birds. The same decorations are repeated on the sides, conferring decorative coherence to the ensemble. The top is painted in black faux marble with golden veins. This type of polychrome lacquer, with its Rococo-derived ornamental patterns filtered through Mediterranean sensitivity and Bourbon influences, recalls the most characteristic Sicilian manufacturing production of the eighteenth century. - All shipments within the EU are free and professionally packed. - Every item is sold with a legally valid certificate of authenticity. - Further details on the condition report are available upon request. - Viezzi Arte guarantees quality and professionalism at competitive prices, contact us at [email protected] or via WhatsApp at +39 3402841279. *Message to non-Italian buyers: Please note that this artwork has not yet obtained the certificate of free export from Italy from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage.
