Pair Of Indonesian Wooden Female Sculptures Late 1700s
Dimensions: : 42.5 cm,: 13.5 cm,: 13.5 cm
Description:

Pair Of Indonesian carved  female sculptures late 18th century depicting two standing women in carved and lacquered wood with extensive painting losses. Resting on an oval base, they are made of a single piece of wood with the joint of arms and forearms (of which the right one is missing). Both have a worn cotton bodice edged with trimmings. The hair is lacquered and gathered at the back. The arms stretched forward appear to be holding out something on offer. Holes on the ears suggest a previous presence of earrings. Traces of blue on the legs, greenish gray on the body, the palms of the hands dyed red, black in the outline of the eyes these are the remaining polychromes. The fashinating  finish, craquelure and oxidation of the pigments suggest the late 1700s.
