Gilded Venetian mirror, Charles X, gold leaf, mercury mirror, 1820
Dimensions:
: 121 cm,: 124 cm
Description:
Elegant Venetian mirror dating to the early decades of the 19th century, during the Charles X period (circa 1820–1830). The finely carved wooden frame features rich decoration with plant motifs, leaves, and flowers executed with great technical mastery and deep undercuts, lending movement and lightness to the overall piece. The gilding is original gold leaf on an orange bole, with a beautiful warm and uniform patina. The mirror is original and mercury-backed, of good quality with a thin plate. It shows two slight superficial abrasions visible against the light, along with normal signs of age, without compromising its overall elegance. The structure is sound and well-preserved, with traces of old, now inactive, woodworm attacks. Original back. A mirror with great decorative impact, balanced proportions, typically Venetian, suitable for both classic and contemporary environments.
