A pair of important Louis XVI vases made of Rosso Levanto marble with porphyry bases and finely chased gilded bronze decorations.
Period: late 18th century
Dimensions: 40 x 20 cm.
The pair of vases features a rounded body adorned with gilded and chased bronze applications: animalistic heads on all sides, two lion heads on the front and back, and two ram heads below the handles. These handles jointly support a chain with hanging tassels, also in gilded and chased bronze. To complete the decorations, there are two rows of gilded pearls at the base of the neck and above the porphyry base. The upper part of the lid is entirely gilded and comprises a vegetal element. The side handles are volute-shaped, decorated with leafy and floral elements.
The pair of vases stands out for the refinement of the bronze decorations and the distinctiveness of the chosen marble.
Rosso Levanto marble combines a dark red background with white veins and dark green traces, creating a particularly striking chromatic contrast.
