VENETIAN DISH IN ISTRIAN STONE EARLY 17TH CENTURY
Description:
Unique and antique round dish in Istrian stone. The dish features a lion and a griffin sculpted in bas-relief, fighting each other. The object adorned an ancient Venetian palace; dishes were indeed typical wall decorations of the Venetian lagoon, widespread since the Middle Ages, present on civil and sacred architectures, which drew subjects and themes from the earlier Byzantine art. It is an object of particular value and relevance, capable of giving a touch of antiquity to any environment. Venetian manufacture (Venice, Northern Italy), from the early 17th century.
