The elegant canvas we offer is easily attributable to the oeuvre of the Milanese painter Francesca Volò Smiller, known as Vincenzina (Milan, 1657 - 1700), a refined specialist in this pictorial genre, and an important exponent of the most numerous and prolific family of Milanese painters of the 17th century;
The progenitor of this "family enterprise" of the highest level and equally successful was her father, the French-Italianized Vincenzo Volò, known as Vincenzino dei Fiori (1601-1671), who, in addition to Francesca, also employed in the workshop her brother Giuseppe Volò (also nicknamed "Vicenzino") and her sister Margherita Volò Caffi.
In her works, the painter shows evident similarities with the painting of her siblings, particularly Margherita, but also specific and autonomous characteristics.
Francesca's painting is characterized by high executive quality, by the rendering of flowers through an intense and heartfelt naturalism, with a prevalence of sharp, cool colors enlivened by touches of deep red and illuminated by the skillful use of white; Like Margherita, Francesca arranges flowers with great compositional freedom in an embossed vase whose sparkling colors (preferred are pink, white, and red) emerge from the dark background.
The material, animated by a vivid light, acquires a particular softness, delicate and virtuosic in the definition of the vase's reflections and in the transparency of the petals.
