25 x 35 cm (unframed) - 44.5 x 55 cm (framed).
Oil on panel, in a carved and gilded wooden frame.
Artwork signed lower left: "L. Ponga".
Lucia Ponga degli Ancillo trained in the Venetian artistic environment of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, cultivating a style of landscape and lagoon views with an 19th-century lineage. The small oil on panel depicts a Venetian capriccio with ruined architecture, a bell tower, rustic buildings, and a bank animated by figures of fishermen and common people, with sailing boats and gondolas on the water. The composition draws on the models of Venetian lagoon views, with the "macchiette" (small figures) reminiscent of Canaletto's repertoire, here interpreted with a loose and vibrant brushstroke, typical of late 19th-century Venetian taste. The palette, dominated by the greens of the cypress tree in the foreground and the blue skies, gives the scene a well-controlled chromatic liveliness.
