Large writing desk entirely in carved, lacquered and painted wood. The structure features tapered square-section legs with gilded foliate motifs; the perimeter frieze is adorned with a row of carved and gilded egg-and-dart molding and rosettes, all lacquered in cream. The top, of considerable size, is entirely painted on a black background with floral motifs, exotic birds, and polychrome scrolls simulating scagliola, according to a decorative style of Tuscan and Roman tradition.
Condition report: Some localized losses and defects on the painted surface of the top; the structure is in good general condition.
