Vittorio Antonio Cargnel trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he was a student of Giacomo Favretto, and developed his landscape sensibility within the tradition of Venetian realism of the late 19th century. His painting is characterized by fluid brushwork, a palette modulated in warm, atmospheric tones, and a rendering of diffused light that combines elements of naturalist tradition with the influence of Lombard landscape painting. The painting depicts a rural village with a bell tower on the left, along a dirt road enlivened by a few figures.
