Italian painter (19th century) - Lady and Musketeer.
40.5 x 40.5 cm (unframed) - 42 x 42 cm (framed).
Oil on canvas, in a thin wooden frame.
The scene is inscribed within a circular reserve on a dark background. A musketeer in 17th-century attire, feathered hat, red doublet, high boots, and sword at his side, holds the hand of a young lady in a red dress and blue skirt, seated before him in a moved posture. In the background, to the left, a table covered with a scarlet drape with books and objects; to the right, in shadow, an elderly figure busy at the stove.
The composition refers to Romantic historical genre painting, widespread in Italy in the second half of the 19th century.
