Erma Zago (Bovolone 1880 - Milan 1942) - The Port of Genoa.
Description:
Erma Zago (Bovolone 1880 - Milan 1942) - The Port of Genoa. 24.5 x 35.5 cm (unframed) - 50 x 61 cm (framed). Oil on board, in a white and gold lacquered wooden frame. Artwork signed lower right: "E. Zago". Erma Zago, a Veronese painter active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, trained at the Brera Academy and distinguished herself with landscape and urban views painted with loose brushwork and vibrant colors, close to the experiences of Lombard Divisionism. The Port of Genoa offers a close-up view of the Ligurian port, with fishing boats moored in the foreground and the colorful facades of the port buildings in the background. The material application, built up with short, superimposed touches, dissolves shapes and reflections into a chromatic texture dominated by ochre, antique rose, and blue, in which the port water reflects the same vibrations as the architectural elevations. The composition harks back to the tradition of late-Impressionist harbor views, practiced in Italy between the 1910s and 1930s.
