Pair of walnut and carob veneered bedside tables. Venice, mid-18th century.
56 x 34 x h 78 cm.
Pair of Venetian bedside tables from the mid-18th century, entirely veneered with a fishbone pattern with radial grain panels in walnut and carob, with light wood inlays. The curved front features an upper drawer with a gilded bronze lock and a lower door with a bronze knob. The silhouette is lively and curved on the front and sides, with molded frames highlighting the two-tier structure. The arched feet with carved volute terminations recall the Venetian cabinetmaking tradition of the full eighteenth century.
