St. Anne and the Child Mary "The Education of the Virgin" Wooden sculpture in oak wood carved from a single piece. French Master from the late 17th century. Height 112 cm x length 57 cm x depth 26 cm (including base). Excellent condition. Extraordinary wooden sculpture depicting Saint Anne accompanying the Child Mary. The two protagonists are carved in the round, standing and full-figure. The Virgin holds the book of Holy Scriptures in her left hand and prepares to listen to her Mother's teachings. The scene conveys a series of emotions. The tender and innocent gaze of the Child, who will be the Mother of God, looks up towards St. Anne, who instead expresses a strong drama, aware of the events already decided by Divine design. The composition is perfectly balanced, very realistic, and without stylistic forcedness, despite the exceptional vigor of the carving. The folds of the Saint's garments are a masterpiece of stylistic elegance. It is clearly a work of art of excellent quality, which highlights, in addition to first-rate sculptural movement, an excellent state of preservation. The large sculpture was carved from a single piece of oak, with no additions to the protruding parts or details. Although the influence of Italian art is evident, the work belongs to the best Baroque production of French sculpture. Sculptures of this level and in such splendid condition rarely appear on the market. A certificate of authenticity will be issued in accordanceance with the law (affiliated FIMA).
