Six Leggera Chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina
Description:
Six "Leggera" chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina. Born from the designer's desire, starting in 1949, to create a light yet resistant chair, he was inspired by the "Chiavarine" chairs produced in Chiavari. The "Leggera" is in fact the prototype of the "Super Leggera" chair, produced as the definitive model in 1957 by Cassina. The prototype was nevertheless put into production by Cassina in 1951. Gio Ponti is one of the most important architects of post-war Italy, founder of the magazine Domus and the Compasso D'Oro award. Artistic Director and Founder of some of the most important Italian furniture and design companies. His furniture is highly sought after worldwide due to his genius and fame. The chairs are made of ash wood. The seat has been restored, with both padding and real leather replaced. Overall, the chairs are in excellent preserved condition. The wood has been re-polished but shows slight, normal signs of age. The chairs are dated to the 1970s. MEASUREMENTS: Height 82 cm, seat height 45 cm Width 43.5 cm; Depth 45 cm
