ROSEWOOD SECRETARY WITH INLAY - FRANCE - NAPOLEON III
Description:
Napoleon III "Bombè" Secretary – Floral Inlay in Fine Woods and Gilded Bronzes – France, 19th Century "Secrétaire à abattant" in the Napoleon III style, dating back to the second half of the 19th century. The piece perfectly embodies the opulence and refinement of French cabinetmaking of the era, featuring a rare bombe, curved line on both the front and sides. Cabinetry and Inlay: The structure is entirely veneered in rosewood and kingwood, with magnificent inlay work of floral and foliate motifs in light woods (maple and boxwood) that stand out against dark backgrounds. The arrangement of the decorations follows the curved lines of the furniture, creating a visual dynamism typical of the "Transition" taste revisited in the Second Empire. Top and Embellishments: The piece is topped with a fine shaped marble top (veined red marble). The decoration is enriched by a rich array of gilded and chiseled bronzes: elegant caryatids on the uprights, sabots on the feet, beaded frames, and finely worked escutcheons. Internal Structure (Bureau): The drop-front, lined internally with leather with gold friezes, opens to reveal a bureau with an open compartment and four inlaid drawers, offering a workspace that is as functional as it is aesthetic. The lower part is completed by three curved external drawers. Condition: Furniture in excellent condition. Spirit polishing enhances the natural nuances of the wood, and the gilding of the bronzes retains a superb brilliance. Dimensions: 68 x 33, height 133 cm. A regular certificate of authenticity with photos will be provided. We guarantee a response to your emails within 24 hours. REGISTERED EXPERT AND TECHNICAL CONSULTANT AT THE COURT OF LA SPEZIA
