Magnificent dish from the full 17th century in majolica from Montelupo Fiorentino, of the decorative typology commonly known as "arlecchinate". The dish is characterized by the Crespina shape, with double scalloping. This is a rarer plate modeling for the Montelupo manufacture, taken from contemporary Deruta or Faenza models.
The male subject, dressed in clothes taken from popular models of the full 17th century, is depicted according to the unusual iconography of the covered hand, which could refer to meanings of nobility, dignity, and self-control, or allude to adherence to a specific order or secret fraternity.
The dish is in excellent condition and shows no visible restoration.
Its diameter is 28cm and the height of the foot is 7cm.
We attach a certificate of authenticity to the sale.
