Important gilded Baroque wooden display cabinet with real gold. Rome, second half of the 17th century.
Description:
Furniture of this type was commissioned to house the most precious and fragile objects in a collection. Examples of this kind were made in Rome between the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th century, often following ideas developed by architects and ornamentalists trained in Bernini's school (similar furniture is kept in the Sacchetti collection in Rome). The present display cabinet is three-sided and is characterized by elegant decorative elements with carved plant motifs: Rich upper cresting; the 2 rear pilasters are surmounted by pinnacles at the bottom, while the 2 front ones are carved with flowing volutes. Four pinnacle-shaped torch sconces delimit the upper cornice. The carving on the frames of the upper glass panels, the side panels, and the central door is meticulous. The lower part is characterized by a small drawer and 3 mirrored panels, also carved and gilded. The furniture is in excellent condition, and the glass panels, including those of the upper section, are original. Provenance: Noble Roman family Its dimensions are: 94cm length x 35cm depth x 110cm height. We attach a legally compliant certificate to the sale, attesting to its period and authenticity.
