Hispano-Moresque lustre plate, late 16th, early 17th century, 40.5cm.
Description:
Important ruby-colored lustre plate from a Valencian manufactory, produced between the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
This plate features a dense decoration of vegetal scrollwork, typical of the Castellane manufactories of Manises, and bears Gothic-style letters on the central medallion. The ruby metallic lustre is brilliant and displays its full beauty, as does the plate's glaze, which is also very attractive. The object has been restored due to a small corner break of approximately 5cm on the lower part, with a crack extending to the central medallion. The reverse, decorated with a spiral pattern typical of Valencian Renaissance ceramics, is also beautiful.
Diameter 40.5cm.
