Description:
Elegant secretaire from the Verona area, dating to the mid-18th century, an expression of refined local cabinetmaking. The piece features a harmonious scalloped front with three rows of drawers, enhanced by rich burl wood inlay expertly arranged to create a sophisticated decorative interplay of grain and geometric patterns. The sides are straight, in a style typical of Veronense production of the period, while the movement is concentrated entirely on the front, lending dynamism and elegance to the overall form. The drop-down writing surface conceals a well-articulated interior with a central compartment containing small drawers and storage spaces, along with the classic side drawers and functional areas for writing and keeping items. The shaped base and quality construction details confirm its origin from high-level production. Overall good condition, with signs of age and use consistent with the period. Some wear and minor repairs over time are visible in the photographs.
