Empire style console, Retour d’Égypte - Italian manufacture, 20th century.
Description:
Dimensions: Width 134 cm, Depth 43.5 cm, Height 82 cm Materials: Veneered wood, carved and gilded wood leaf. Elegant Empire-style console with refined references to the Retour d’Égypte taste, made in the second half of the 20th century (circa 1980s-1990s) by Italian artisans. The structure is entirely made of wood with a precious veneered finish, whose warm, rippling grain is expertly arranged to create a symmetrical decorative motif on the front. The slightly overhanging top has a rounded edge that lends softness to the rigorous lines of the furniture. The front is embellished with a thin, continuous gilded frieze, serving as a chromatic contrast between the natural tones of the wood essence and the plastic elements. The neoclassical character of the work is defined by the two female heads applied to the sides, made of carved and gilded wood leaf. These elements, clearly of Egyptian inspiration, act as a transition between the frieze under the top and the legs. The slender, slightly curved supports lightly reinterpret the models of the early 19th century. The construction, which integrates the use of reclaimed materials according to a noble artisan tradition, guarantees stability and harmonious proportions. The piece is ideally suited for grand entrances or eclectic living rooms. The item is in good conservative condition, with normal and slight signs of age consistent with its era and use.
