Elegant Louis XVI Writing Desk – Parma Area, Late 18th Century
Splendid solid walnut writing desk, attributable to the refined cabinetmaking production of the Parma area in the late 18th century (peak Louis XVI period). The piece of furniture is distinguished by its geometric rigor and the formal elegance typical of Italian neoclassicism.
Main Features:
Top: Ample rectangular top with a fine light wood inlay around the perimeter defining its contours, enriched by a warm and deep patina that attests to the piece’s age.
Under-top Band: Equipped with a capacious central drawer. The drawer front is embellished with a geometric inlaid frame that echoes the design of the top.
Hardware: Features finely worked bronze escutcheon and handles, with garland and urn motifs, classic iconographic elements of the Louis XVI style.
Supports: The furniture rests on four elegant inverted pyramid trunk legs, connected to the band by a connecting block. The leg terminates with the classic “top” foot.
Construction Details: The back and sides are finished, allowing the furniture to be positioned even in the center of the room.
Condition:
