Cesare Dies was a prominent figure in Roman painting of the late nineteenth century. He trained at the Accademia di San Luca under the guidance of Tommaso Minardi. His career was closely linked to the papal court, so much so that he was called the "visual chronicler" of the Vatican. Important works by Cesare Dies are in the most important churches in Rome.
