Praying Virgin  Translated
Description:
Praying Virgin Circle of Guido Reni (Bologna 1575 - 1642) Oil on canvas from the 17th century Gilded frame Canvas 45 x 67 frame 57 x 79 Excellent condition An extremely elegant depiction of the Virgin in prayer, with her hands crossed on her chest. Of remarkable stylistic perfection, the painting portrays the beautiful face of the Madonna with extremely fine features, slightly in profile and modestly turned downwards with half-closed eyes. The author of the canvas is gifted with excellent pictorial ability and should be placed within the circle of Emilian artists gravitating around the creative genius of Guido Reni, whose students included Francesco Gessi, Giovanni Sementi, Simone Cantarini, Michele Desubleo, and Elisabetta Sirani, as well as other excellent interpreters of his extraordinary inventions. Indeed, the painting is part of the many images of the Virgin Mary created by the great Master and reproduced in his renowned workshop. The remarkable grace of this Marian iconography was ideally suited for private devotion, and following its great success, it was often reproduced to embellish the homes of important Bolognese families who greatly desired it. In this case, the finesse of the painting is evident, distinguishing it from the many copies of modest quality depicting the same subject. The luminous complexion and the deep blue of the Virgin's mantle stand out, which, along with an ideal measure, make the painting very pleasant and easy to place. We provide a stamped and signed certificate of authenticity that guarantees the period, provenance, and all characteristics of the work, drawn up by an antiquarian affiliated with FIMA (ITALIAN FEDERATION OF ART MERCHANTS).
