The series consists of four half-length portraits of Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, each identified by their customary iconographic attributes: Matthew is accompanied by the angel, Mark holds a pen and book, Luke is depicted with the head of a bull in the lower left, and John is shown young with the eagle in the lower right. The compositional arrangement, with figures emerging from a dark background in line with 17th-century luminism tradition, points to the painting culture of 18th-century Northern Italy. The brushwork is free and direct, with an effective rendering of facial features and good overall execution quality.
