Italian painter (18th century) - Saint Monica in prayer. 56 x 32 cm. Oil on canvas, unframed. The painting depicts Saint Monica in Augustinian habit, caught in a moment of fervent prayer with her gaze and right hand raised upwards. A second nun of the same congregation, behind her, accompanies her with a discreet gesture. To the right, a young devotee in prayer completes the composition. The dark background is animated by a classical architectural element and a red drapery on the left. The rendering of the faces and the fluid treatment of the garments are attributable to the Italian painting tradition of the second half of the eighteenth century. Condition report: Original canvas.
