This splendid pair of canvas paintings depicts two iconic views of Italy's most important and famous cities, admired worldwide for Rome's extraordinary historical significance and Venice's unparalleled dreamlike beauty.
The monumental St. Peter's Square, with its semi-circular colonnades, the ancient Egyptian obelisk, and the Basilica of the Popes, is paired with the surreal image of the Basin of St. Mark's, reflecting its magnificent, unique architecture in the waters of the Lagoon.
The two views are executed with excellent pictorial technique, highlighting the great beauty of both the sunlit Vatican square and the varied spectacle of Venetian palaces.
