Mattia Traverso was a Genoese painter active in the first half of the 20th century, trained within the Ligurian academic tradition with a distinct inclination for subjects of an Arcadian and mythological taste. His work is characterized by solid technical skill and a luminous palette, which in some works reveals the influence of Italian Baroque painting, particularly Genoese and Venetian. The painting depicts an ancient banquet scene enlivened by putti and nude female figures. In the center, a nymph, seen from behind, pours a drink into a chalice held by a young figure, while in the foreground, a dog, a metallic amphora, and fruit appear. In the background, an architectural backdrop with columns introduces a group of celebrating figures.
