Venetian painter (19th-20th century) — Venice, view of the Island of San Cristoforo della Pace.
35 x 45 cm (unframed) - 46 x 56 cm (framed).
Oil on canvas, in a gilded and painted wooden frame.
The view depicts the Island of San Cristoforo della Pace in the Venetian lagoon, recognizable by its simple, gabled-roof church flanked by low convent buildings. In the foreground, gondolas and boats animate the lagoon waters with figures of gondoliers rendered with the quick, synthetic brushwork characteristic of Guardi-style genre scenes. The vibrant palette, dominated by the turquoise-greens of the sky and water, is typical of Venetian genre painting from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
