Description
Pine wood chest dating back to the 15th century, from Tuscany; a typical example of a Renaissance wedding chest, used both as a container for the dowry and as a prestigious domestic item. It features polychrome tempera decoration. The front is divided into three panels: framed rectangular side panels with figurative scenes and landscapes revealing urban settings and possibly narrative episodes related to the wedding or family history; a central medallion with a coat of arms, surmounted by three crowns or stylized figures, indicating the commissioning family and their social status. Side handles and central lock are contemporary.
