PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN EARLY 18TH CENTURY  Translated
Description:
Beautiful oil painting on canvas depicting a gentleman belonging to the ancient chivalric order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, founded in 1572 by the House of Savoy. The protagonist of the painting wears a wig typical of the early 18th century and an outfit that reflects the style of the Louis XIV era. On the character's chest, one can notice the characteristic green ribbon of the Mauritian order and a cross hanging from it. With his right hand, the gentleman leans on a cane. The painting was created by a portrait artist active in Northern Italy in the early 18th century, and the work is distinguished by its great realism and meticulous attention to detail. In the past, the painting belonged to a baron connected to the House of Savoy. Finally, regarding the frame in which the painting is housed, it is also antique, made of carved and gilded Swiss pine wood.
