The sculpture portrays the young Joan not in military attire, but in civilian clothes, with a humble veil covering her hair and a simple dress, visible only at the beginning of the bust, closed by laces. This portrait is distinguished by its interpretation, as it is devoid of warlike elements; the artist has chosen to express the young woman's compassion, fear, and sensitivity instead. The artist's extraordinary skill is evident in the rendering of the face, particularly in the features and eyes, which convey profound meaning. It is attributed to an anonymous French artist, as the signature is missing, dating from the first half of the 19th century.
