CHM908 - Monumental white marble fireplace, attributable to the neoclassical taste and datable between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The fireplace is solemn and architectural, with a rigorously symmetrical structure that fully reflects the aesthetic culture of the period.
The band is linear and well-proportioned, enriched by elegant sculpted reliefs with floral motifs and festoons that develop horizontally, culminating in the center in a finely crafted oval medallion. Below the shelf appears a small winged head of clear classical inspiration.
Particularly noteworthy are the side uprights, embellished with female herms sculpted in high relief.
The figures, characterized by a soft and refined modeling, wear classicizing draperies and are adorned with hanging floral garlands, an element that gives movement and grace to the composition while respecting the general symmetry.
The quality of the carving suggests a good level of manufacture, probably intended for a representative environment.
Period 1700/1800.
