Description:
Two rare and elegant Rococo style tables in carved and lacquered wood, Piedmont, mid-18th century, similar in origin and decorative taste yet distinct in function and color. Table with leather top, Dimensions: cm W 56 x D 45 x H 74 Table with faux marble top, Dimensions: cm W 53 x D 42 x H 75 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity The first table in the photo on the left features a refined quadrangular top with a gilded curvilinear profile and lobed rounded corners, in the center of which is inserted a leather panel with an elegant gilded stamped reserve. The structure is entirely in carved and lacquered wood in shades of blue-green with gilded highlights; the frieze below the top, slightly flared downwards, equipped with a drawer with a rocaille bronze pull and key, is animated by a rich decoration of gilded cast plaster vegetal and floral motifs that continues on the sides and back, with asymmetrical designs not enclosed in frames, particularly sought after for the period. The curvilinear lower profile is emphasized by a thin gold fillet, while on the left side there is a practical pull-out wooden shelf, originally intended to support a lamp and today useful as a small desk or additional support surface. The four tall and arched legs, curved and slightly tapered downwards, are also lacquered and adorned with gilded fillets and rocaille motifs that accentuate their slender line. The table is finished on all sides and is also suitable for placement in the center of a room. The second table, coeval and also from Piedmont, features a quadrangular top with a gilded curvilinear rim and lobed corners, painted in faux marble to simulate a precious stone slab and to dialogue with the decorative taste of the period. The lacquering, in cream white tones with rich gilding, creates a luminous and bright effect, maintaining the same Rococo elegance. The frieze below the top, organized around the central drawer, is decorated with gilded cast plaster vegetal and floral motifs enclosed within a frame, while on the sides and back a refined decoration of gilded flowers and leafy branches develops on a lacquered background, rare and with a decidedly rocaille taste. In this case too, the curvilinear lower profile is emphasized by gilded fillets, and the four arched and curved legs, entirely lacquered and decorated with shiny rocaille motifs, give lightness and movement to the ensemble. The table is finished on all sides, also ideal in the center of a sophisticated environment. The two tables, although not identical, form a harmonious pair in terms of proportions, period, origin, and style, united by the same Piedmontese Rococo imprint and a rich all-around floral and rocaille decoration. The different finishes of the tops create a refined dialogue between functionality and chromatic rendering, making them perfect as a pair of small living room or entrance tables, but also as elegant nightstands next to an important bed. Both tables will undergo a light conservative restoration intervention, aimed at preserving their historical patinas and original decorative freshness, making them ready to be placed in classic or eclectic interiors.
