Elegant Louis XVI period half-moon bedside table, made in the Veneto area towards the end of the 18th century. The piece of furniture has a refined structure entirely shaped like a half-moon, a characteristic that concerns not only the top but the entire development of the body, giving the silhouette a remarkable architectural balance and a strong scenic presence.
The supporting structure is in fir wood, assembled with traditional joints and original nailing, while the exposed parts are veneered in mahogany with elegant cherry wood reserves that create a refined chromatic contrast. The executive quality is particularly high, evident in the attention to proportions, in the thin threads and in the processing of the tapered truncated pyramid legs.
Of great interest is the upper compartment with a sliding tambour door, a technical solution of taste already late eighteenth century: the shutter, composed of thin slats glued onto a textile support, slides on original internal guides, a testimony of a cultured and technically advanced realization.
The front has two shaped drawers, with sober and elegant flush nozzles, consistent with the neoclassical production of northern Italy. The whole recalls Louis XVI models with early proto-empire accents, while maintaining a typically Venetian decorative lightness.
The green marble top is later but from the period, well integrated and consistent with the conservative history of the piece of furniture.
A piece of furniture of great charm, rare for construction quality and for the presence of the tambour door, an uncommon type in Italian bedside tables of the late eighteenth century.
