Large pair of bronze door knockers, Milan, late 17th-early 18th century  Translated
Description:
Important pair of large (16 cm diameter) knockers made of solid bronze, characterized by a refined plastic workmanship. The elements have a ring-shaped structure with a circular section, embellished with relief decorations that recall phytomorphic motifs and zoomorphic stylizations typical of cultivated architectural ornamentation. The lower part of each knocker is finished with an acorn or central bulb element, flanked by chiselled volutes that give dynamism and solemnity to the artifact. The upper part retains the original iron pins necessary for fixing to the wooden doors. The austere but refined style refers to the great tradition of Italian monumental metalwork, with a specific affinity to the models in use in the noble palaces of Northern Italy, in particular the Milanese area. The natural dark patina testifies to the prolonged exposure to atmospheric agents, giving the objects an authentic historical charm. The work can be traced back to the high manufacturing production of the 17th - 18th century, an era in which bronze was widely used for the external decorative elements of patrician residences. The state of conservation is excellent, with a well-preserved original patina and structural integrity of the bronze components; the iron pins show natural signs of superficial oxidation which do not compromise its solidity. On Anticoantico.com there are 2 slightly smaller knockers from the same building  Translated
