Rare 18th-century bed, in almost perfect condition with usable current dimensions. Vienna, 18th century. With splendid figurative inlays.
Description:
Austria, 18th century. Rare and refined 18th-century Baroque bed of noble origin; it is finely veneered in burr walnut, with masterly zoomorphic figurative inlays, floral motifs, acanthus leaves, in maple, plum wood and ink decorations. Turned columns. Decorative details in maple wood. It is in practically perfect condition, restored with a conservative criterion in a workmanlike manner with a French polish finish on the original patina. Ready to be upholstered. Patina and signs of use appropriate to the era. Interesting and rare dimensions of 191 cm internal length, 209 cm maximum, 128.5 cm internal width, 137 cm maximum, 77.5 cm shoulder height. These are rare because at the time people were normally of small stature and this bed was made for an unusually tall person. The crested bird, so splendidly inlaid, is probably a hoopoe, a fascinating bird that displays its crest in courtship and for love. The two opposing doves in the upper part that meet are also a symbol of love and peace. This work, as was customary at the time, was probably created to celebrate the love and marriage between two scions of the Austrian nobility. The work is in practically perfect condition, with a patina with a French polish finish applied using a museum standard technique. It is sold in its current original condition and can be upholstered with a slatted system or by creating a custom-made mesh on which to place the mattress (recommended solution because it is not appropriate to load the fragile eighteenth-century structure). In accordance with the provisions of the New Code of Cultural Heritage, the selling company provides, together with the sale, a detailed written photographic guarantee of the originality and provenance of the works sold. The data with which the works are described and then contained in the written warranties are expressed determinations resulting from accurate and documented technical/historical/artistic investigations, up to and including expert assessments.
