The Vestal Virgin Tuccia
Oil on canvas, cm 106 x 153
The painting depicts the scene of the Vestal Virgin Tuccia, the priestess unjustly accused of having failed her vow of chastity.
The episode is narrated by Valerius Maximus, who describes the prodigy invoked by the priestess: she appeared before her judges with a sieve, full of water from the Tiber, from which not a single drop fell. In this way, with the help of the goddess, the girl demonstrated her innocence.
