Painting by Lorenzo Delleani - Crouching Nude Figure, circa 1860
Description:
Oil on canvas. The work is accompanied by an authentication on photo by the scholar Angelo Dragone, who also mentions having published it in his catalog "Lorenzo Delleani, the work and his time", in vol. II, page 105, number 21. Coming from a private collection in Turin, the work was presented at auction at Sant'Agostino in Turin (with a starting bid of €5000). Delleani, who initially painted predominantly historical subjects, gradually approached landscape painting "en plein air", especially of the places of his origins, the Piedmontese valleys. He then also painted various figures, especially popular ones, while his production of nudes is rarer, although scenes of bathers, at the lake or on the beach, with various nude female figures are recurring, even in the pose of the figure presented here. The work is presented in a style frame.
