Description George II sterling silver tankard, William Dalton, Newcastle, 1747 Of gently tapering cylindrical form on a flared foot, the body has an applied central band. The hinged double-domed lid lifts by means of a volute thumbpiece, with a cast hinge section. The double C-scroll handle terminates unusually with a large cast fluted shell. Sterling silver hallmarked with 5 hallmarks: Maker's mark: William Dalton Lion passant: alloy mark.
